The purpose of this guide is to help you find your lost AutoCAD 2013 product key so that you can reinstall the software easily and carry on with your work. Please note that this guide works only if you’ve previously purchased a copy of the software and have not reinstalled the operating system since then.
Ever since 2009, the software from Autodesk brought all kind of new and useful features like the possibility of freeform design or the multifunctional grips. Even the latest version that almost everybody is probably working with introduced the directly editable UCS icon and the associative arrays.
What this actually tells us is that the developers are very keen on creating a product that allows you to create your design on the computer as you would actually imagine, removing the obvious technical limitations of the software.
As an example, the newest version of AutoCAD is now able to work with a very big number of modeling paradigms like solids, meshes or point clouds. It is now possible to import the files that you need created with other software like Rhino, Solidworks, 3D studio max or Autodesk Inventor.
The 2013 edition of the application has definitely brought new ways of creating associative drawing views over a 3D model. Moreover, the now classic 2D drawing has been improved so that it feels much comfortable to use.
Sure, there are a lot of engineers who do not consider Autodesk’s software to be top notch, in terms of creating or rendering some models. Fortunately though, this latest version has definitely turned things around. This is because you are now allowed to open and edit models that you’ve created using other CAD rendering software, as it has support for various file types.
Among the most notable improvements over the previous version is the implementation of cloud computing and model documentation, but this does not make other new features less important.
In order for the software to be more efficient, the developers decided to move all the help files in the cloud and re-organized them in a manner that will offer a faster access. Additionally, for those who do not have a workstation connected to the internet, Autodesk offers a local file download option that you can configure in the options menu.
As you would expect from any third version release of the software, this one changes the file format used to save your work. The new extensions, DWG, is not backwards compatible with the older versions of AutoCAD but the program offers you the option to save the project using a file type that is recognizable by 2010 or 2011. The only drawback to this solution is the fact that you will lose all those new documentation views.
It is very likely that a lot of engineers are still creating their designs using the 2009 version, but this would be a good moment to upgrade. If you decide to do this, you will benefit from all the improvements that came in the other versions plus the ones from 2013.
Getting back to the main subject of this article, here are the steps that you should follow in order to recover the serial without using any kind of illegal software like a keygen.
First of all, there are two very similar methods that you can use to complete this task so you should choose the one which you really think that you would be comfortable with. You can use the other if somehow you fail to recover the data using the first method.
The first one that I am going to show you is pretty much automated as you simply have to install a software that will deep scan your Windows registry to find references for all the programs you installed, no matter if they are still present or not.
Use any of the below two links to download the application (the names are different but they do pretty much the same thing) and then install it on your computer. As soon as it finishes, you should run it and configure the settings to scan your computer’s registry information. Please note that it can take up to a few minutes depending on your system specs.
When the search is finished you have to go through the list and find the entry for Autodesk or AutoCAD and click on it. On the right side of the window you should now see some information from where you can retrieve the product key and use it to reinstall the software.
If none of the software manage to find the entries the program, there’s an alternative method that requires you to manually search for the data in the system registry. In order to do this you have to type in the start menu box the following command ‘regedit’, without the quotes obviously. This should bring up the built-in Windows registry editor so that you can go through the entries manually. Once it opens, expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and then do the same for the one called SOFTWARE.
Here you will find a folder for every application that was installed in your computer but the one you’re interested in is under the Autodesk name. Double click on the folder when you find it to make entry to the one called AutoCAD 2013. Here you should click on it and again on the right side of the window you should be able to see a few fields among which the serial you lost is present. It is now recommended to write it down or e-mail it to your address so that the next time that you want to install the application you will not have to go through this process all over again. When you are done, close the registry editor without saving the changes (if any).
I would like to remind you again that the above guide is meant for those users who bought a legal copy of the software and not to those who are using illegal copies. Our website does not offer or promote piracy so if you reached the website while searching for such, it is likely that it’s not going to be very useful.
